Digital Design System

Link

Links help users to navigate to another content area, page, or site.

Overview

Usage context

When to use

Use links to encourage users to navigate somewhere, such as:

  • Another content area (as in a jump link)
  • Another page on the same website
  • Another website

You may also use links to encourage users to take an action when a button is not appropriate. Actions that commonly use links instead of buttons include:

  • Opening a document in a new tab
  • Opening an email program
  • Starting a phone call

When to use something else

Don’t use a link for the primary or secondary action in a content area (such as submitting a form). Use a button instead.
